I woke up this morning, and looked at the little girl, fast asleep, a mess of legs, arms, and hair, and I wondered – where had the time gone. I so vividly remember holding her for the first time. She was so delicate, so perfect. The day we left the hospital, she was a whopping 5 lbs 4 oz, and all of 18 inches long! And today, 7 years later, I couldn’t have even began to have imagine how amazing she would turn out. She is an inspiration to me every day. She is sweet, empathetic, determined, and imaginative.
When I asked her a few weeks ago, what she wanted to do for her birthday pictures, she said that she wanted to invite all of her friends over for a tea party. I said that sounded a lot like two birthday parties. And she said to me, “But, I was thinking of this shot, when all of my friends would be walking away from the camera, holding hands, and just I would look back.” She also wanted to miss school for the day. So we met in the middle, and she took the morning off of school. I got to photograph my sweet, smart, beautiful daughter, and spend the morning laughing. And just an F.Y.I., I was the photographer today, but I definitely was not the creative force behind these photographs. I had next to no imput in the outfits (which is not uncommon!), and I would say that I set up less then 10% of the shots. Maddy had so many amazing ideas, way more ideas then we had time. Who knows, maybe she will follow in my footsteps!
